Having expensive Low-E products on the processing line leaves little room for mistakes and inferior quality. True to the Tamglass tradition of developing and piloting technological improvements, the new Sonic has already proved itself in extended production runs for continuous production of window and patio door glass sizes with 65% bed utilization. This processing has been carried out with a charted optimum Super Low-E glass processing speed of 33 sec/mm. There are good grounds for regarding the processing of complex products at this speed as a world-record performance.
The special challenges set by the handling and tempering of Low-E glass products have considerably affected the whole production chain. The Tamglass solution to these challenges is based on the patented profiled convection system with ultra-speed convection blower technology. The new Sonic system is designed especially for the tempering of Super Low-E (E=0.02-0.04) products mainly for IG units and other architectural glass applications.
While the new glass types demand more from a technological point of view they also bring the issue of economy strongly into the picture. In order to combine the high standards of strength, breaking pattern, optical quality and flatness with extremely high capacity the developers of the new machine generation had to address a multitude of patented features. Having a combination of unique features the efficiency of the Sonic heating system has been measured to bring up to +60% more capacity than traditional machinery.
Ease of operation has been another very important driver in the Sonic design. Today's tough market environment means that flexible and mixed production is a necessity in competition. In practise this means that processors must have the capability to process all commercial and temperable glass types. The extreme flexibility and adaptability underlines the importance of automatic heating and cooling control in line with recipes specified for each type of glass. Rapid adaptation of machine settings underscores the importance of automation. Manual settings for each batch each time and calibration to optimum conditions is no longer feasible in the time available; the support of advanced machine automation has become a necessity.
High utilization rates of process machinery also take their toll of the process and the assurance of maximum reliability becomes a crucial production factor. This in turn calls for ease of maintenance and minimum production stops when action needs to be taken. Placing the Convection Booster units outside the furnace greatly facilitates their maintenance. The elimination of glass breakage inside the furnace to avoid complicated stoppage is enhanced by the elimination of moving parts. The Sonic ultra-speed convection blower system is a case in point as they are placed outside the machine.
