Author Introduction

Alex Brykov

Dr
St.Petersburg Technological Inst.

Alex Brykov is a scientist and a high school teacher of St.Petersburg State Technological Institute (Russia). The object of his interest for last five years has been chemistry and applications of soluble forms of silica and silicates: alkali silicates (solutions, hydrated forms), polysilicate systems, and colloidal solutions of silica.

The object of his working during student and post doc period was the use of microwave heating to organic reactions (synthesis in liquid and solid state processes). After receiving Ph.D. position (1998) and till present he has been working in the field of chemical technology of inorganic binders.

The development of technology of fire-proof glass on the base of alkali polysilicate gels has been one of Brykovs occupations for some years (from 2001 till now). During this time the problems of manufacturing, transparency, frost-resistance and stability of glass were solved. Some scientific aspects of formation of polysilicate gels were also investigated. He approved this method in one of the enterprises of St.Petersburg (Russia). Now, fire-proof glasses produced by “gel” technology are installed in many buildings and constructions of St.Petersburg, Moscow and other towns of Russia.

He is the author of about 35 publications and patents.
