Prof. Yiwang Bao obtained his B.S. degree in Solid Mechanics in 1982 from Wuhan University of Technology, and a Master degree in Solid Mechanics at the same university in 1985. He accomplished his research for Ph.D degree in inorganic materials engineering at China Building Materials Academy (CBMA) in 1990. Dr. Bao was awarded the Humboldt fellowship in 1995, researching in Jülich Research Center (KFA) Germany for two years. His research field involves evaluating mechanical properties of glass and ceramics, reliability estimation, lifetime prediction and nondestructive test. Over the years, he has published more than 120 scientific papers and over 16 patents and earned 5 scientific awards in this field.
He was honored as “Young Expert with excellent achievement” in China Ministry of Building Materials in 1998, “Outstanding research fellow returned from abroad” in 2004. And in 2007 he accepted a title of "Honorary Senior Research Fellow" from University of Birmingham, UK, and "Distinguished visiting Fellow" from Britain Royal Engineering Academy.
Now, He is the Chairman of Educational committee of CBMA, general engineer of Test & Certification Center for Glasses.
