General Motors

Dick Ruzzin took the opportunity to retire early from General Motors Design Center in May of 1998 after three years as Director of Design for Chevrolet Cars which followed four and a half years in Germany as the Director of Design for G.M. of Europe.

As an automotive and executive designer, he has made significant contributions in vehicle design for Opel, Chevrolet, Saab and Cadillac as well as the creation of many new types of products, concept vehicles and exhibits.

He has written for ID magazine and Car Design News, helped conceive and develop Michelin Challenge Design and as an artist and avid car and design enthusiast he has been involved in concepting and creating several continuing local and international automotive design events and shows, including the Eyes On Design Awards at the North American International Auto Show.

In 1999 he proposed and created a permanent exhibit at the Eleanor and Edsel Ford House that described the design of the first Lincoln Continental.

Since 2002 he has been involved in helping and working with Chinese companies and designers through his company STILE / ITALIA / USA, Design and Engineering with offices in the USA and Italy. He has traveled often to China and Taiwan.

He is cofounder of DESIGNERS NIGHT IN DETROIT, conceived and developed the concept for EYES ON DESIGN and later THE DESIGN FORUM with AutoWeek magazine and the EYES ON DESIGN AWARDS at the North American International Auto Show.

He lives outside of Detroit with his wife Merrie Lynn.
