Andreas Gombert

Andreas Gombert was born in 1961. He studied photoengineering at the University of Applied Sciences of Cologne, Germany, and optics at the University of Strasbourg, France.

He started his professional career at the Fraunhofer Institute for Physical Measurement Techniques, Freiburg, Germany. There he worked in the field of integrated optics.

Since 1991 he has been working at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems, Freiburg, Germany. His research topic was optical thin film characterisation by spectroscopic ellipsometry firstly. From 1994 on he has been building up and leading the research group for optically functional surfaces at Fraunhofer ISE. In 1998 he recieved his Ph.D. from the University of Strasbourg. Since 2002 he has been lecturing at the University of Freiburg. He is heading the department "Materials Research and Applied Optics" at Fraunhofer ISE with appr. 60 employees since March 2005. The researchers of this department work on optical coatings, microstructured surfaces, dye and organic solar cells, solar concentration and solar power plants, and on photovoltaic modules.
