Executive Vice President AGC Flat Glass and CEO of Glaverbel
Asahi Glass Company, Glaverbel
Arthur Ulens was appointed Executive Vice President AGC Flat Glass and CEO of Glaverbel Group in May 2002. He joined Glaverbel in 1969, beginning his career with the new products marketing department. After some years of successful promotion of specialty products on many export markets, his responsibilities were enlarged to cover the sales and marketing of the complete Glaverbel range of products in specific geographical areas. During this period of his career, he built up leadership positions for Glaverbel on several key markets for the Group. As a consequence he was promoted to manage all the building products, both raw and processed glass, for the European and overseas markets.
In 1989 he acquired general management experience in setting up and managing Glaverbec, the first float glass plant of the Group in Canada. When the plant was merged with the American activities of AFG Ind. in 1993, Arthur Ulens became President of AFG Canada.
He returned to Europe in 1995, became Director of the Architectural Glass Business Unit and focused on converting in-house plants into subsidiaries. In 1997 he was appointed a member of the Executive Committee of the Glaverbel Group. In 1998 he became Director of the entire Building Division and reinforced his interest for innovation and added-value products.
Arthur Ulens is also a director of the Glass Industry Federation in Belgium. In 2004 he was appointed Chairman of the GEPVP (Association of European Flat Glass Producers).
Born in 1946, Arthur Ulens holds a degree in chemistry and another in economics from the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium).
