Patrice Roose earned a PhD in physics from the University of Brussels (VUB), Belgium in 1989. His PhD thesis work was devoted to the study of the water dynamics in aqueous colloidal silica dispersions and protein solutions using field-cycling NMR relaxation techniques. At a post-doctoral level, his research covered the analysis of dynamic light scattering data by system identification.
He started at UCB Chemicals, Belgium, (now Surface Specialties S.A./N.V.) in the unit "elemental analysis" of the analytical laboratory in 1998. Rapidly, he extended his activities to the physico-chemical characterisation of dispersed media as well as specific projects for the application of modified starch dispersions in water-based coatings.
In 2000, he moved to the "physical characterization" section. His main fields of interest cover the thermal, mechanical and rheological characterization of acrylic polymer and radiation-curable resins for thin coatings and pressure-sensitive adhesive applications. Currently, he is also involved in the development of new glass laminates structures prepared using radiation-curable resins. In particular, the acoustic attenuation of multilayer glass panels was studied in more detail.
Over the years, the diverse research activities have resulted in more than 20 scientific papers and conference proceedings as well as a few international patents.
