Dr. Gulati obtained his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from University of Bombay (India), M.S. degree from Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago, USA), and Ph.D degree in Applied Mechanics from University of Colorado (Boulder, USA). After a brief teaching career at the University of Colorado, he joined R & D laboratories of Corning Inc. in Corning, New York, in 1967. Dr. Gulati specialized in brittle materials including glass, ceramics, and glass-ceramics. His expertise lies in mechanical and thermal reliabilities of silicate glasses, glass ceramics and ceramics. He has worked on automotive glass, LCD glass, television glass, liquid crystal display glass, space windows, telescope mirrors, fiber optics and extruded honeycomb ceramics. He published over 200 technical papers and wrote several chapters for handbooks on glass and ceramics. He holds 8 U.S.Patents. He rose to the highest technical position of Research Fellow before retiring from Corning in January, 2000. He is currently a consultant to Corning Inc. in their Science & Technology Division.
