Sebastian Thieme studied civil engineering at RWTH Aachen and developed a special interest in glass design during his work as a student assistant for Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sedlacek at the Institute of Steel Construction. In his final year at university, he worked in collaboration with Arup Facade Engineering in London, researching the influence of climatic loads on the structural performance of double-glazed units. He continued his career at Arup, working on a number of significant projects with a focus on glass design in facades, structures and artwork, before joining the Institute of Building Construction at Technische Universität Dresden. Sebastian teaches glass design at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and works in an interdisciplinary team of scientists researching innovative glass connections.
