Easy Design of Overhead Glazing by Using Design Tables

Barbara Siebert, Ingenieurbüro Dr. Siebert
Geralt Siebert, University of the German Federal Armed Forces Munich
Claudia Pauli, Pauli + Sohn GmbH

The analysis of line-supported overhead glazings is more or less simple to do, design tables can be developed easily. Calculation with near to reality results of point fixed glazing using FEA is a very complex calculation process. Beside special (and expensive) software also special knowledge about application of FEA is needed together with of course time and money for this complex calculation process.

In order to enable more easy and comfortable application Pauli + Sohn supported by Ingenieurbüro Dr. Siebert (consulting engineers office) applied for several national general approvals (allgemeine bauaufsichtliche Zulassung = abZ) at the DIBt (Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik = German Institute of construction engineering).

The abZ now gives a method for easy design with easy to use tables with possible loading-measurement-combinations. Examples of realised objects from small canopy to large roofs illustrate the possibilities.

Another way to design point fixed glazing is a step-by-step method for a save calculation, in near future used for national general approvals in Germany.
