Glasses for Fire Resistant Glazed Assemblies

The requirements, that must be met by fire
resistant glazed elements are shortly described
as well as the possible classification of their
different types. The individual means to transform
ordinary fragile glass into products, that perform
so much better in case of fire are discussed as
well as special glasses, and the technical
background for each approach to that aim is
given. Appropriate framing systems are
presented and examples of internal and external
applications of such glazing are shown. The
latest status of the European Standardisation is
shortly reported as well as the different systems
to obtain technical approval and to prove
conformity The existing standards are compared
with the performance in natural fire situations.
The report ends with an outlook concerning
technical and legislative developments to be
expected.
