Without glass, civilization as we know it would be impossible. Glass provides us with daylight whilst protecting us from the daily changes in the weather, the annual changes in the weather and, probably, the effects of longer-term climatic change. Glass provides, above all, a view of the World beyond the pane.
So, if it is such a good thing, can we, as with candy, have too much of it? Well, potentially “yes!”. But then again, “Why“ ? What are the beneficial, as well as the less-beneficial effects of glass in the hot and arid regions and what should we be looking for in terms of “good glass” selection for glazed openings, whether in small residential buildings, or in majestic all-glass facades in a desert environment?
