Green building - Opportunities for the glass industry through LEED®

Valerie L. Block, LEED® Accredited Professional, Senior Marketing Specialist, DuPont™ Building Innovations

LEED - Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design - is a program of the U.S. Green Building Council. The glass industry has a significant role to play in LEED projects through the use of high performance insulating glass units that exceed the requirements of ASHRAE Standard 90.1. In addition, points can be achieved by using glass for daylighting and to enable views to the outside. The green building movement is growing as evidenced by a growing number of LEED registered and certified projects and government requirements to design buildings according to the program. This paper gives an introduction to LEED, its role in design, and opportunities for the glass industry to grow alongside and support the green building movement.
