Rating the energy performance of fenestration systems in architectural applications

James C. Benney, Executive DirectorNational Fenestration Rating Council

The National Fenestration Rating Council is well recognized for developing uniform consensus standards for determining the energy performance of fenestration products. A new program has been developed that addresses the specific needs of the non-residential building community entitled the Component Modeling Approach. This new rating procedure utilizes libraries of fenestration system components with recognized thermal efficiencies allowing architects and other contractors, to determine standardized building envelope energy performance ratings during the design stage.
