In industrial glass tempering, information about the compressive residual stress field on the glass surface is important to guarantee the quality of the glass product. In this paper we investigate stress in flat glass specimens that have been tempered on an industrial tempering unit, using.both static and oscillating tempering. Using both computational fluid dynamics and computational mechanics models, residual stresses inside the tempered glass plate are computed. Validation of the numerical results is achieved using stress measurement with a compact scattered light polariscope.
