Semi-conducting zinc ferrite (ZnFe2O4) has a narrow forbidden-zone width and its valence electron can be easily evoked to conduction band when the wavelength of evoking light is less than or equal to 700 nanometer. ZnFe2O4 films were deposited on the soda-limesilicate float glass substrates by sol-gel technique to make new nanometer photocatalytic films with higher degradation efficiency for potential self-cleaning glass applications. The films were characterized using atomic force microscopy and X-ray powder diffraction. Degradation concentration of methyl orange was measured by atomic absorption spectrometer. High degradation efficiency with wide absorption in visible light region was observed for the ZnFe2O4 films.
