Software Designed to Measure and Control Glass Temperature in a Lehr Using Line Scanners

Mr. Vern Lappe

During the annealing of float glass a specific
glass temperature cooling profile along the length
of the annealing lehr is desired. In addition the
cross temperature profile of the glass is changing
as the glass progresses along the length of
the lehr. To measure and control the glass
temperatures a special Float Glass Software has
been developed that will operate and display the
images of as many as 5 infrared line scanners
placed along the length of the lehr. If the glass is
cooled following prescribed temperature profiles
the quality of the glass is improved and a property
called cutability is greatly improved.
