Antireflective Coating on Glass for Solar Applications

Thomas Hofmann, Monika Kursawe

A significant increase in efficiency of solar systems can be achieved by using antireflective glass. The antirefl ective glass is produced by coating via sol-gel chemistry, generating a porous SiO2 layer which shows a refractive index of <1.3. The resulting antireflective effect leads to an increase in transmittance by additional 6 % to 96 % and thus to an increase in efficiency of 8 % for solar collector systems and 3.5 % for PV modules.
