Composite Actions Between the Members in Glass-covered Structures

Paavo Hassinen

The components of glass-covered structures are traditionally designed to be single independent members without structural interactions. However, the fastenings give some shear rigidity to the joints, which has influence in the distribution of the stresses and deformations. The paper studies the composite actions between the members. The components of a glass-covered structure are modeled numerically. The flexibility and the resistance of the joints in the model is based on experimental data of shear tests. Analysis of the composite actions gives information about the real stresses in the members and joints to be used in the development work of new structural systems and in the evaluations of the long-term behaviour and resistance of the present glass-covered structures.
