Protecting a building’s environment from increasing noise levels is a critical consideration when specifying glazing materials for new and renovated structures. Sound transmission into a building spaces generally happens through the weakest element - usually glazing constructed with ordinary window glass or insulated glazing unit. Laminated glazing made with acoustic PVB interlayers -such as Safl ex A series by Solutia- offers a more effective solution for sound reduction. The sound damping performance of acoustic PVB interlayers clearly provides architects and specifi ers a superior alternative for addressing these complex demands. This paper will focus on sound reduction methodology and will highlight the benefi ts, in terms of sound attenuation performances, of newly developed acoustic solutions from Safl ex, a unit of Solutia Inc., the worldwide leader in glazing solutions.
