Solutions for Existing, New Construction, and Future Windows

Windows are the weakest or most energy intensive component of the building thermal envelope. As a result there is an enormous opportunity for cost effective energy and carbon reductions with the introduction of new technologies. For example, the development and signifi cant penetration of Low E windows (residential > 50 percent and commercial > 25 percent) in the US economy has resulted in over 30 Billion US$ in energy savings. This success is highly attributed to the National Fenestration Rating Council’s establishment of a uniform, credible, rating and labeling program that has been utilized by building codes, ENERGY STAR, and other effi ciency programs.
