Measurement of Optical Quality of Automotive Glass and Detection of Optical Defects by "Ombroligne"

The method of using shadows generated by
the optical deformations of glass online on
floatlines was named „Ombroligne“ by VEGLA
and ST. GOBAIN. The development took several
years and is now being installed on floatlines.
The system is based on using shadow of light
which is transmitted through the glass or
reflected by float glass. This is transformed into
optical power,ie. Zebra degrees. Furthermore the
system is used to detect defects such as drips,
reams and distortion lines.
