The results of a systematic study of the mechanical damping characteristics of a series of radiation-cured Uvekol acrylate resins used in multilayer glass panels are reported. The composition of the liquid acrylate resin was varied following an experimental design approach and the effect on various thermo-mechanical properties of the UV-cured materials was monitored in order to generate the response surface. In particular, the linear viscoelastic properties of the crosslinked network were determined by dynamical mechanical analysis. The spectral range of the viscoelastic data could successfully be extended to the audio frequency band by application of the time-temperature superposition principle. From these data the flexural rigidity and damping characteristics of simply-supported three layer glass/Uvekol/glass panels were estimated using the Ross-Kerwin-Ungar model. Finally, the sound reduction index was predicted from standard transmission loss equations. From these results new formulations were identified as potential candidates for enhanced acoustic performance.
