Intrusion Resistance Testing of Laminated Side Glazing

Mr. Robert A. Esposito

Demand for laminated side and rear glazing is
growing rapidly, as car makers respond to
consumer interest in improved intrusion
resistance. To insure that intrusion resistance is
provided by enhanced protective glass, a
performance test is needed.
This paper discusses intrusion resistance test
method development underway in the US and in
Europe. Data indicate that the glazing and the
glazing/car body attachment system must be
tested to insure that improved intrusion resistance
is attained.
A preferred test method is proposed.
