Nanotechnology is a process of designing materials from nanostructures. By varying the form, the composition or the surface properties of nanoparticles, new materials can be performed. Inorganic and organic materials can be combined to yield for example coating materials for glass. Within the last years, nanotechnology based easy-to-clean-coatings for clear glass have been developed and launched successfully into the marked. Their biggest advantage was the long-lasting glass protection and the easy-to-clean effect respectively. Frosted glass (e.g. material blasted or etched glass) is a special case of glass. It is used more and more as a design element for interior glazing and especially the material blasted surface has an important disadvantage: The visibility of fingerprints and other soiling and the problem of cleaning without residues and damages. The Nanogate Coating Systems GmbH has developed a new generation of coating materials for frosted glass based on chemical nanotechnology. The coating material can be applied on material blasted as well as on etched glass, reduces the visibility and adhesion of fingerprints and other soiling and makes the surface easy-to-clean. A very interesting variant of this material is a wide range of decorative coatings which can be used to colour the frosted glass in many different ways. With these materials colour effects on isolated areas like material blasted motives on glass doors as well as completely coloured frosted panes can be generated.
