The Use of Laminated Glass with Photovoltaic Elements

Iris Maniatis, Gert Albrecht

From a technical point of view laminated glass is ideally suited for integration of solar cells. Using the sun as regenerative energy source is environmentally friendly and getting implemented in the architecture more and more often.

Different types of solar cells, as well as various carrier-material (e.g. casting resin, EVA-interlayer) can be combined by different production methods.

In several research projects we examined the bearing capacity of different interlayer materials, different glass-types and thickness, over worst-case temperature range. Tests were carried out on laminated glass with and without photovoltaic elements and results were compared. This paper gives an short overview of the results of this research.
