Shattering Old Myths about Defect Formation in Laminated Glass. Part II

Dr. Bert C. Wong

This paper discusses additional work on understanding the underlying causes and mechanisms of defect formation in laminated glass. The roles of air and other parameters are more clearly delineated. Defect formation is related to the properties of the interlayer such as viscoelastic properties, air solubility, and surface energy. The proposed mechanisms are more consistent with the understanding of defect generation and propagation in composite materials or at interfaces than traditional explanations.
