Reduction of solar radiation into cars in some hot climate areas is an interesting topic to discuss nowadays. Current auto glass is always incorporated with black ceramic bands around the edges for the purpose of obscuration of glues or adhesives bonding the glass to the car bodies and also of protecting those bonders from direct UV exposure which may lead to future failure. An innovative metallic heat reflective ceramic frit is studied for replacement of black ones, acting like a blackbody which absorbs all the infrared ray and UV radiation, and radiates the heat energy to the inside of cars, showing that more than 25% solar energy is reflected by the unique painted bands, and furthermore, the color of such frit is adjustable to match the color of the car body, to satisfy the different taste of various customers. Heat and optical properties is tested and discussed in this paper, compared with black paint.
