Lay-Up & Assembly System for Laminated Automotive Safety Glass

Lutz Gerold, Juergen Weiss, Johannes Deutges, Maschinenbau GEROLD GmbH & Co. KG

The MBG LAY-UP & ASSEMBLY SYSTEM (patent pending) is an equipment configuration that accomplishes fully automated and operator-independent interlayer lay-up & assembly of laminated automotive safety glass.

GEROLD advanced its semi-automatic assembly system and recently launched a fully automatic system configuration, offering an unprecedented perspective in laminated automotive glass production. The new system configuration repeat accurately automates the entire assembly process. Rationalization is maximized concerning interlayer cut and part assembly. To that effect, GEROLD engineered a pre-cut configuration, whereby interlayer is cut to final shape prior to lay-up and assembly. However, if product features require the MBG LAY-UP & ASSEMBLY SYSTEM is available as post-cut configuration, too.

This new generation of GEROLD-assembly equipment is available for different glass parts (windshields, backlites, sidelites, panoramic-sunroofs), part sizes and cycle times. It is capable of handling stretched interlayer, with or without shade band, and interlayer with defrosting wires. The cutting and lay-up system work equally well with single-, bi- and tri-layer material.
