Every Good Automotive Glass Production Machine Deserves a Reliable Camera Control Gate

Kimmo Simomaa, CCD Photonics Ltd

The methods of electronic imaging have been applied to control the esthetic quality of automotive glass production. The benefits and limitations of a low cost system have been discussed using some practical examples. The camera system is used in the final inspection of windscreens and in the initial inspection of sidelite glass panes after cutting, drilling, grinding and washing before printing and bending. The camera control can be used to reject any bad looking glass unit from the line. The operator is able to return any glass back to production, if the defect is not critical. The system is cost effective; the pay back time is not more than one year.
