Screen-printing Enamels and Silverpastes for Automotive Glasses

Today different bending methods based on sag-bending
or press-bending are in use world-wide
both for laminated and thoughening glasses.
Technical requirements for enamels like printing
properties, firing ranges, opacity, antistick
properties and chemical durability are discussed.
Silverpastes are used for printing of hot-lines,
antennas and sensors. Beside proper conduct-ivities,
the compatibility to the black enamel print on
backlights is very important.
Beginning with the „Heavy Metal Ban“ in the
USA, the automotive industry indicates restrictions
in the use of lead and cadmium compounds in
enamels and silver pastes. It is shown that the use
of lead-free enamels based on Bismuth or
Borosilicate frits is a State of the Art Technology
today.
Superior printing quality for lead-free enamels
can be achieved by advanced technologies in
formulation of IR-drying and UV-curing pastes.
