The automotive industry continues to develop new vehicles with unique styling, passenger comfort, and cabin refinement. These features are highly dependent on the ability of the glass industry to provide glazing materials that will meet the ever-tightening specifications of the automobile industry.
The global automotive industry is very competitive, with every vehicle manufacturer producing highly styled entries into numerous market segments. Each manufacturer is trying to gain an edge in the market with new “fashion statement” vehicles. Tighter specifications and newer tolerances are required to achieve these vehicle styling and performance features.
Several trends in the automotive industry will be explored and reviewed in light of the new features desired and the glazing requirements. Tougher automotive requirements will affect the glass industry’s ability to provide these newer products and features, allowing the automotive industry to produce highly styled and comfortable vehicles for future global markets.
