Innovative Glass Applications in Specialty Vehicles

The author discusses the history of automotive glass and some of the innovative applications in the styling, myriad functional and armoring areas of both production and concept vehicles. Future trends are presented that will require more extreme glass geometry, more embedded electronics, tighter tolerances, and simplified processes to satisfy the vehicle designers, the vehicle assembly plants and the glass manufacturing companies. Vehicle manufacturers as well as after market products will be affected by these trends and a partnership with the glass manufacturing companies will be required to continue development of better products for our customer's.
