Sputtered coating systems for large area glass were introduced to the glass industry over 20 years ago. These coating systems have now been installed in over 25 countries around the world addressing various market applications. BOCCT pioneered the application of magnetron sputter coating to large area. As such BOCCT witnessed and participated in many of the innovations and developments which shaped this industry. Following a brief review of historical coater trends, a global market outlook for sputtered coating capacity will be presented. Industry forecasts for market growth in the areas of architectural, automotive and display glass are considered the major factors in predicting future regional demands.
