DC, RF and Electrical Properties of Conductive Transparent Thin Film Coatings on Flexible Substrates

Michael A. Kast, P.E.

The electrical properties of various sputter-deposited transparent solar control films on PET substrates are amenable to design for different applications. Constructions, geometries and performance characteristics of electrically heated conductive foil laminates for deicing and defogging are presented, notably for localized heating at 14V. Electrically heated conductive foil laminates are computer modeled in two dimensions and verified with IR imaging of full scale windscreen and sidelite prototypes. Radio frequency properties of laminated glass incorporating these foils for coatings with various sheet resistances are presented. Sputtered foils with sheet resistance above 100 per square offer RF transparency.
