Recent automotive glazing requires various functions such as comfort, security, and environmental impact in addition to safety. In order to meet customers’ demands, PVB for laminated glass plays an important role in high performance automotive glazing. In this paper, multi-layer technology of PVB interlayer is presented as a superior solution for high performance glazing. Particularly, sound control interlayer will be discussed to show how multi-layer technology contributes to a higher level of performance glazing. Maximum sound attenuation level could never be achieved with single layer acoustic PVB film because of its low mechanical strength and handling difficulties. Unlike single layer acoustic film, sound attenuation performance in multi-layer PVB construction can be optimized to the maximum level by having different functions in the outer and inner layers. Multi-layer PVB technology opens the possibilities for high performance automotive glazing.
