A Narrow Impact on China's Automobile Industry from WTO

Tso Tak Wong

The OICA (international Organisation of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers) proclaims that the global automobile output in 1999 was 54.658 million vehicles with a jack-up of 5.1 %, and that of China's was 1.8045 million vehicles with a jack-up of 10.9%. China's output ranks the ninth in the world given its higher jack-up by more than 5.8% of the global average. A question widely discussed by many automobile traders is whether or not China's Automobile Industry can withstand the impact of China's entry into the WTO. Using my frame of analysis regarding the China Automobile Consumption Market, I believe that joining the WTO will only will only make a narrow impact on the China's Automobile Industry.
