For quality control of curved and hollow glass different dimensional measurement procedures are necessary. In most cases mechanical sensors are used, that are handled automatically or manually.
Main disadvantages are:
- Slow speed of measurement
- Contact to delicate glass-surfaces
A measuring system based on laser sensors for contact-less measurement of distance and in special cases also of thickness of glass parts offers a lot of advantages in comparison to the method mentioned above. Data acquisition can be done by a PC for displaying the measuring results and "out of tolerance conditions". It is also possible to integrate the system into the production line and to use the results for precise positioning or handling procedures. The possibility of air- and even water-cooling of the sensors allows the application on "hot" glass.
