Safety and security of façade design through quality of processes and components

Mr. Dirk Schulte, DORMA-GlasTec GmbH

Today’s modern glass façades are, without question, high-tech structures which have to be designed, produced and, no less important, installed in accordance to high quality standards under consideration of economical aspects. To achieve the goal of acceptable lifetimes of no less than 15-20 years under individual environmental conditions, each involved party within a façade project has to provide reliable quality in processes as well as components from the very first design draft up to the execution at site.

Everything starts with the design, even the mistakes! A clear understandable guideline has been developed to avoid serious problems during the development, erection and lifetime of innovative glass façade constructions in adherence to cost budgets and quality standards. This manual simplifies the daily work of all involved parties through clear recommendations based on proved design, communication, production and installation processes under definition of modular verifiable “Key Indicators” in view of ensuring adequate quality standards.
