New dimensions in quality control for insulating glass units

Klaus Puschmann, Lenhardt Maschinenbau GmbH

During the production process of insulating glass units (IGU) there are many parameters which influences the quality of the production. This presentation will show, what is state-of-the-art technology for the manufacturer of insulating glasses to ensure and prove the best quality.

First of all the materials used in the production process should be qualified for the purpose they are designed for. In façades which are exposed to extreme climate influences, each material has to fit exactly. Secondly, the production process itself is influenced by a lot of parameters, which have an impact on the quality of the fabricated insulating glass. Gas filling rate is one example, but also production parameters of other involved machines. All these parameters are measured for each unit and stored with the ID of the unit in the line control software. The third step is the documentation and identification of the data. With the RFID technology we are able to implement a chip in the unit which contains the complete range of the production data. The allocated data is unique for each IG unit and the identification of the production parameters therefore is no problem.

By the example of a data controlled TPS® (Thermo Plastic Spacer) or Flexspacer (Super Spacer® / TriSealTM) production, we will show all 3 steps for advanced process and quality control:

  1. application of verified high-tech materials

  2. production parameters and their control

  3. documentation and identification of the production data
