Modern insulating glass is based on high
performance sputtercoatings and special
gasfillings. Surface emissivity values of the
coatings less than 4 % in combination with noble
gases filled into the airspace of insulating glass
result in u-values down to 0,4 W/m 2 K.
Solar control glass is used for reducing the
thermal load of buildings. A maximum of natural
light is to be combined with a minimum of solar
energy input. High performance solar control
glazings transmit nearly the whole of solar light, but
reflect nearly all of the solar infrared radiation. The
selectivity of the coated glass is very near the limits
given by laws of nature. High power glazings help
to save energy for heating of buildings.
