European Standard for Insulating Glass Units (prEN 1279 Series)

Standard harmonisation has been in the last ten years a fundamental target for European Commission; mandate to CEN has been given in order to prepare European Normative covering all industrial fields.
Technical Committee CEN/TC 129 "Glass in Buildings" has recently finalised his work and draft standard for Insulating Glass Units is ready for final approval.
In accordance with EC Directive 89/106 which prescribe obligatorily CE marking for all glass products, after a transitional period of two years, only IG manufacturers complying with this standard will be allowed to commercialise their products.
It is time therefore for all producers to approach standard contents; this paper will give basic information in order to fulfil requirements for Factory Production Control and rules for the System description.
