The proportions and dimensions or glazed
areas, are derived by various engineering
methods regarding the daylight utilization and
thermal energy principles and the economic use of
materials in Turkey. The daytime hours of
occupancy of the dwelling (based on the social
variables like the household size, the
percentages of the housewifes, the pre-school
children, the unemployed and the elderly), the
religious beliefs, traditions, life styles and energy
consumption patterns e.t.c. are not considered
however at the state of the art. This pver will
attempt to evaluate the social data which may be
included in criteria for setting the dimensions and
proportions of glazed areas in terms of the
demographic statistics based mostly on 1990
census for Turkey, compared with figures of the 15
Member States (Austria, Belgium, Denmark,
Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy,
Luxemburg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain,
Sweden, United Kingdom) of the European
kingdom.
