Climatic loads in curved insulated glasses

Jürgen Neugebauer, University of Applied Science, Graz, Austria

A current tendency by the architects is to design glass cladding or windows with curved glass. This glass can be monolithic bent glass, bent laminated safety glass or insulated glass. A special topic is the design of a bent insulated glass. A difficult part of the structural analysis is to find values for the internal pressure in curved insulated glass. One way is to define the two limits for the pressure. On the one hand is the isochore limit with the highest internal pressure in the insulated glass unit and on the other hand is the isobaric limit with no added increase in internal pressure. Depending on the bending strength of the glass the realistic pressure is in between these two limits.
