Russia federation towers – A structural glazing façade at the highest stage of energy saving

No doubt, the Russia Federation Towers will not only become THE landmark in Moscow. Once finished in 2008 Tower A with its height of 340 m will become Europe’s highest office building. Its façade is Russia’s first structural glazing façade with Argon-filled insulating glass units - made in China. My paper at the GPD 2005 [1] gave an overview about IG technologies and developments in Argon-filling in IG with UV exposed edge sealing. Now this project gives a good reason to scrutinise the experience Argon-filling in structural glazing facades in details and the impact of climatic loads on the IG edge sealing under Russia’s tough weather conditions.
