Glass Architecture Concepts: Transparency, Energy, Structure, Geometry

The purpose of such conferences is the intercommunication and cross-fertilization of technology and design between designers and the glass industry. New architectural concepts incite the industry to respond by developing and inventing new technologies to meet product requirements, and designers are inspired with the new potentials. It is an ever enriching cycle that we can only encourage.

With glass, transparency is the dominant theme. Computer tools allow a greater understanding of complex geometry and structural analysis. Architectural designs have explored transparency in fluid and complex forms through this developed understanding of structure and geometry. Developments in coatings and light modulating treatments on glass, as well as sunscreening devices, lead to energy responsive design concepts.

Architectural concepts require appropriate technical concepts for their successful realisation. This paper presents technical concepts of several projects that explore development of these architectural concepts.
