Analysis and Design of Glass Especially Laminated Glass Used in Curtain Walls

The evolution of nonlinear stress analysis of
different types of window glass such as
monolithic, insulating glass unit and laminated or
safety glass is presented. Analysis of glass is
extended to consider dynamic pressures using a
step-by-step integration procedure. The stress
analysis of laminated glass is complicated by the
presence of the PVB interlayer. A new model
combining finite element and finite difference
method for the nonlinear stress analysis of
laminated glass is presented. Based on maximum
allowable stress and deflection criteria, new
design charts are developed for selecting window
glass and laminated glass to sustain a specified
lateral design pressure.
