New laminated composite materials based on float glass

Maslov V.P., V.E. Lashkarjov Institute of Semiconductor Physics of NASU & Rodichev Yu.M., G.S. Pisarenko Institute for Problems of Strength of NASU

New laminated composite materials based on float and special technical glasses were developed and tested at the different conditions of thermo-mechanical loading. These composite structures composed of glass and of the additional layers made of high strength and hard non-organic materials as well as of new strong adhesives were made to raise mechanical resistance of the details under extreme working conditions.

The additional layers were functionally selected in compliance with sphere of component using. The SiC-ceramics, glassceramics and super hard materials were used to offer advantage of glass composite units under static and dynamic contact loading by the hard bodies as well as to reduce the unit surface abrasion.

The appropriate adhesion materials, structural parameters of adhesion layer and bonding technology were optimized by the use of local and common strength criteria for composite details. Special glass surface processing technique was used to raise the adhesion strength and the influence of constructional factors on joint durability was considered.

Advanced nano-technology of laminated composite bonding based on the use of high strength and rigid vacuum metal nano-sized adhesive coatings was applied to guarantee durability of precision composite units at the cryogenic and high temperatures.

The results of experimental study of some advanced laminated composite glass materials are discussed. It was shown the technical and economic benefits of the proposed technological and design approaches.
