The influence of the interlayer on the behaviour of laminated glass in the serviceability domain

Silvia Briccoli Bati, Mario Fagone, Giovanna Ranocchiai, Luca Romoli

In the last years a great deal of experimental work has been carried out by the authors, testing laminated glass. An experimental procedure was refined to determine the mechanical properties of the interlayer within laminated glass in dependence of load time and temperature; numerical and close form procedures were developed to provide the behaviour of bending beams and plates before crack. The experimental technique was refined in order to obtain the most of and the most reliable information from various interlayer available on the market. The numerical procedure was tested by comparison with bending tests on beams. Although the computing are rather simple, the problem arises to define a test method that can be applied, with the various interlayer now available, and that can be used in the laboratories authorized to issue certifications.
