Gas-filled insulating glass units in windows and capped-system curtain walls is state-of-the-art technology. Gas filling in structural glazing facades so far was more or less limited to the sensitive Thermo Plastic Spacer (TPS) technology. The development of other warm edge spacers and new silicone secondary sealants gives insulating glass manufacturers more options to produce gas-filled insulating glass units with UV resistant edge seals for the use in structural glazing facades. Gas loss rates as low as 0.2 % per annum ensure a service life of more than 20 years. Nevertheless all this requests highest product and production quality and precise calculation of the sealant height considering both wind loads and climatic loads.
